Navy Postal Clerk Rating established 30 Nov 1960
Welcome to the Navy Postal Clerks Association WebSite
This site and its related Association is for past and present Navy members of the Postal Clerk rate (established 1960) and their families. Also pre and post PC that served as navy postal clerks are welcome as are Marine Corps Postal Clerks, and any officer or civilian employee that served in a postal billet.
Any and all family members of a deceased postal clerk are welcome tp join. Please register with the site, registration will grant you access to many advanced website features. Registration is free and is separate from membership in the Association. When you register start use your real name as your user name, the reason being is that the Association is for Navy Postal Clerk and persons with a relationship with the Navy Postal Service. It is establish to promote friendships, renew old acquaintances, and memories. It is not to be anonymous user website. Under other information indicate your PC rate or your association with the Navy Postal System. If you are already registered PLEASE change your user name to your real name. The association is made up of former, retired and active men and women of the Naval Postal Service who have been serving the fleet since October 1960, and the Mail handlers before them.
There is a myth that the association is a bunch of old Chiefs, this is not a fact as we have PCSN's to PCCM's, serving as little as 2 years to over 30 years, regular Navy as well as reserves.
The purpose of the association is:
- To promote the social welfare of the Navy Postal Clerk community.
- To conduct programs for charitable and educational purposes.
- To sponsor or participate in activities patriotic in nature.
- To provide social and recreational activities for it's members.
Along with the above, we also have a goal of keeping the tradition of hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Naval Postal Service and the Mail Handlers before them alive.
Postal Clerks are among the most known people of any command, sometimes maybe not the most liked, but still the best known.
You can wear the a Navy Retired or a Navy ball cap and many times will be told "Hello Shipmate", but wearing the Navy Postal Clerk Association cap, you are more likely to hear "did you know postal clerk so and so" Come on over to the Forums and speak your mind!

Association News
From the President,
With a heavy heart, it's my sad duty to report that Chief Postal Clerk Richard
(Dick) G Baber (Hutchinson KS)has passed away on Aug 29
Dick was one of the founders of the Navy Postal Clerk Association
(NPCA). He did all the grunt work behind the scenes the NPCA would not have been
success without Dick's efforts.
Dick served with
me at the Fleet Mail Center Yokohama where I considered him a good friend and a
great asset to the postal operations and a good bowler.
Chief Baber was a
true carrier postal clerk being a plankowner on both the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) and
the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70)and also served on the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65)and
the USS TICONDEROGA (CVS-14). Other ships he served on were USS PRINCETON
(LPH-5) and USS SCHOFIELD (DEG-3) Where ever his assignment took him, he
contributed greatly to the success of the getting mail to the Fleet. He is
remembered as a good shipmate who made many friends and performed of his duties
and achieve the respect of the Navy and those shipmates he served
with.
The names of Postal Clerk Chief Richard (Dick) G. Baber will be recorded on the
list of 'Shipmates Forever' and his name will be remembered at the calling of
the roster of departed shipmates at every reunion.

“Las Vegas won the vote as the site for the NPCA 2010 reunion. Then our economy went into the tank. We have come up with the Palace Station which was the best and most economical place to hold the Las Vegas reunion 3-6 May, 2010 arrive May 3 check-out May 7th . WE REALIZE MANY OF OUR MEMBERS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A COMP ROOM AT ANOTHER HOTEL, buta key factor in the success of our reunions is the availability of an informal meeting or "hospitality" room in which folks can gather, talk, relax and enjoy refreshments. Most hotels charge an exorbitant rental fee for such a meeting room unless the group can promise a minimum of 25 rooms to be occupied and attendance at a banquet catered by the hotel; in which case, the vital hospitality room then becomes "complimentary." Obviously, it serves the success of the reunion very well if we can contract for a minimum of at least 25 rooms in the chosen hotel and count on all reunion attendees to sleep there and participate in the banquet.

The demise of the PC rate |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Postal Clerks and Storekeepers Merge to Become Logistics Specialists
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The U.S. Navy Postal Clerk (PC) and Storekeeper (SK)
ratings will merge on October 1 to form the new Logistics Specialist (LS)
rating.
"This merger is a step in our efforts to define the supply enlisted
workforce that will support the Navy in the 21st century," said Rear Adm. Mike
Lyden, Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and Chief of Supply
Corps. "Our work processes in the future will require a more broadly trained
Sailor who can provide a unique skill set to our Navy and joint warfighters. By
combining these two ratings, we lay the groundwork for future readiness and
greatly enhance career opportunities for all Sailors in the LS rating."
Merging these two ratings will give the PCs a viable career path, broader
skill sets, and increased advancement opportunities with no adverse affect on
the SKs, according to NAVSUP Command Master Chief Jim Collins. "And the LS
rating will also benefit Sailors with a broader skill set and greater diversity
in both sea and shore assignments."
Logistics Specialist more accurately describes the knowledge, skills, and
abilities of the new workforce and further aligns with our future force
requirements, according to Rear Adm. Lyden. He also commented that "our supply
enlisted community plays a vital role in executing the Navy's Maritime Strategy
mission both afloat and ashore."
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead approved the ratings merger on
Nov. 17, 2008. Since the LS rating was approved, a new rating manual, mobile
training teams, and online training programs were developed to educate PCs and
SKs in their new roles as LSs.
"We also improved training and personnel qualification standards for
Storekeepers assigned in postal positions afloat," said Collins. He added that
the establishment of the "LS rating marks the beginning of a rating specifically
designed to meet the requirements we face today and anticipate tomorrow."
NAVSUP's primary mission is to provide U.S. naval forces with quality
supplies and services. With headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and employing a
diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 25,500 military and civilian
personnel, NAVSUP oversees logistics programs in the areas of supply operations,
conventional ordnance, contracting, resale, fuel, transportation, and security
assistance. In addition, NAVSUP is responsible for quality of life issues for
our naval forces, including food service, postal services, Navy Exchanges, and
movement of household goods.

OPEN LETTER FROM PCCM GIL HOUGH USN Retired |
 |
 News Story by: PCCM
Gil Hough, USN (Ret)
“ Why Join the NPCA
Association”
The Navy Times dated October 25, 1960, nearly forty six (46)
years ago announced those selected for the Postal Clerk (PC) rating and it was
born; 644 personnel switched ratings to become the elite of the elite; those
who served and cared.
It seems the older I become, the more nostalgic I become; I
was seventeen (17) in 1960. One thing remains certain is that I was proud to
serve my fellow sailors and provide valuable morale from home. I have great
memories of our rating and friendships that I have made over the past 46 years.
