Help for the Visually Impaired

If you are having a hard time viewing this, or any other website because you are visually impaired, or just getting older and having a hard time seeing quite as well as you once did, here are a few tips.

First try to determine what program you use to browse the internet with. If you don't know, look at the top of the program you are using to view this website, it should say "Navy Postal Clerks Association-Yadda, Yadda, Yadda-Microsoft Internet Explorer (or Netscape Navigator, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.). The most common is Internet Explorer. If you still can't tell, click on "Help" near the top of the screen, it should then give you a menu, one of the options should be "About XXXXX". The "XXXX" should tell you what browser you are using. If you still can't figure it out, just try to follow the instructions given below for Internet Explorer, and you should run into the solution. Remember, even though you change the text size for your internet browser, the text size for the rest of the software you use will most likely be unaffected.

If you aren't seeing what I have explained below, you may be using an older version of the respective browsers. Even if you are able to figure out what from the instructions, below, it is always a good idea to use the latest version of browser for the best online experience. Go here for the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Go here for the latest version of Netscape Navigator. Go here for the latest version of Mozilla (or Firebird/Firefox). Go here for the latest version of Opera.

Microsoft Internet ExplorerIf you use Microsoft Internet Explorer to browse the internet:
Open Internet Explorer. Go to the menu at the top of the screen, you should see "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help" or something similar. Click on "View". Click on "Text Size". You should then be given an option about what size you want the text to be. You can choose "Largest" if you are having a very hard time seeing the screen, or you can choose something like "Larger" or "Medium" for only a little bit larger text.

If you use Netscape Navigator or Mozilla to browse the internet:
Open Navigator/Mozilla. Go to the menu near the top of the screen, you should see "File Edit View Go Bookmarks Tools Help" or something similar. Click on "View". Click on "Increase Text Size". You can continue to click on "View", "Increase Text Size" until you are satisfied with the text size.

If you use Opera to browse the internet:
Open Opera. You should see a menu near the top of the screen that says "File Edit View Navigation Bookmarks Mail Window Help", or something similar. Click on "View". You should see a menu with a list of new options, go to "Zoom", then click on what percentage you want to zoom in by, 150%, 200%, etc.

If you use Safari, Konqueror, or any other less common software to browse the internet:
You already know more about your software than I do. You are on your own if you use a Mac (Apple) or are using Linux as an operating system. Ask whoever talked you into using it for assistance.

If you or someone you know is blind, or nearly blind, there are several browsers that can "read" the websites you visit to you. One such browser can be found here. It is free to visually impared individuals. Follow the instructions on the page. Make sure you take note of the password given on the page mentioned above.

As always, if you have problems, please let me know. The easiest way to contact me would probably be through this website's Forums. Using the forums is good because if someone ever has the same issue, they can see the original question, and see the solution.
